Call for Nominations for the Committee on Socioeconomic Status (CSES)

The deadline is September 13. CSES anticipates two membership vacancies and is seeking qualified candidates to serve three-year terms commencing January 2018. Nominations may originate from individuals, APA committees, boards and Divisions, as well as self-nominations. The committee shall: 

  • Collect information and documentation concerning SES.
  • Promote scientific understanding of the roles of poverty and SES in health, education and human welfare.
  • Develop approaches to the application of psychology that take into account the effects of SES on psychological development and well-being.
  • Advocate for the social policy that will alleviate or reduce the disparities between SES groups.

Travel to Cuba with APA International Learning Partner Program

Initiated in 2012, the APA International Learning Partner Program is designed to promote an understanding of psychology and psychological issues in countries outside the United States. The program advances these goals through international collaboration in research, education and scholarship. This program is open to psychologists and graduate psychology students who are interested in building professional collaborations with colleagues in Cuba.

APA will host a trip to Cuba to attend Psicosalud 2017 in Havana, Cuba. The dates of the trip are Oct. 27-Nov. 5, 2017, with an optional extension to visit the east of Cuba through Nov. 9, 2017. Trip participants will visit Havana, engage in seminars and site-visits on the Cuban health care and education systems and will attend the Psicosalud conference. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Society for Military Psychology

Distinguished Mentor Award 

The Society for Military Psychology, APA Div. 19, is accepting nominations for the Military Psychology Distinguished Mentor Award. This award is intended to recognize exceptional efforts of individuals who invest in the development of psychologists and other professionals interested in the psychological study of the military through service, education, research, teaching and training.
